Next month, thousands of people from all over the world will descend on Detroit for the US Social Forum which is a giant
conference, er, convergence (?) for the purpose of massive global change. From the USSF website…
The US Social Forum (USSF) is a movement building process. It is not a conference but it is a space to come up with the peoples’ solutions to the economic and ecological crisis. The USSF is the next most important step in our struggle to build a powerful multi-racial, multi-sectoral, inter-generational, diverse, inclusive, internationalist movement that transforms this country and changes history.
We must declare what we want our world to look like and we must start planning the path to get there. The USSF provides spaces to learn from each other’s experiences and struggles, share our analysis of the problems our communities face, build relationships, and align with our international brothers and sisters to strategize how to reclaim our world.
Fucking sweet, right? Well prepare to get stoked because Fender Bender is going to be hosting two workshops during the forum as well as hosting other non-forum exclusive activities during the week! Yeah!!!!
Here’s the brief summary of us on their website. Our workshop dates and times are as follows:
Tuesday, June 22nd 10am-12pm @ Cobo Hall
Saturday, June 26th 10am-12pm @ Cobo Hall
As I mentioned, we will most likely be hosting some other community-based events during the evenings which may include group bike rides, a skill share workshop, and possibly some discussion groups about gender politics and a forum for shared experiences.
The USSF workshops are open to people of all gender presentations and identities, and some of our extracurricular programming will likely be inclusive as well, but we will keep you informed as to which events we may be hosting that will require us to enforce our view of safe space for women, transgendered and genderqueer individuals.
We hope you’ll join us for some of these activities if not all of them. Also, keep an eye out here for other scheduling updates throughout the month of June.
See you on the streets!!
